Dear friends,
Two of us from Interhelp are doing a one-day workshop of Joanna
Macy-type "Work That Reconnects."
The purpose of this work is to provide a safe space in which people
can connect with others around concerns for our world predicament
(environment/peace/social justice, whatever is alive for you) and
support each other in feeling less helpless and more able to take
action in our lives that will make a difference.
All are welcome!
Eleanor & Rosalie
We invite you to join us
THE WORK THAT RECONNECTS
A One-Day Interhelp Workshop
Saturday, May 10, 2008
9:30 am to 4:30 pm, at 154 Auburn St., Cambridge
This can be a discouraging time for people working for peace,
justice, and the environment. We know that we can't give up, but
sometimes it feels hard to keep on keeping on. That's where this
workshop comes in.
The Work That Reconnects is designed to help activists and other
caring people to draw strength and courage from their inner
resources, and each other, and find new possibilities as well as ways
to protect ourselves from hopelessness and burnout.
Who are we? Eleanor Mathews and Rosalie Anders, who will facilitate
the workshop, are part of the leadership council of Interhelp,* an
all-volunteer organization.
What will happen at the workshop? We will join our energies to
experience heart-opening exercises that fuel our activism and inspire
us toward courage in our work for a nonviolent and life-sustaining
civilization.
Where did this work originate? This work was inspired by Joanna Macy,
a Buddhist scholar and peace and environmental activist, who, with
others, developed exercises designed to help people move through
their feelings of despair, anger, and fear to a strong sense of
empowerment. Many of the exercises are found in Coming Back to Life,
which she wrote with Molly Young Brown.
What about cost? There is a suggested $10 donation, but no one will
be turned away. We will provide a simple vegetarian lunch.
For directions, and to reserve your place by Friday, May 9, please
contact Eleanor Mathews at 978-263-4815 or Rosalie Anders at 617-868-6058.
*Interhelp is an international network of people who share a deep
concern for world conditions that threaten human life and the earth.
We support each other in moving from feelings of hopelessness and
isolation to empowerment and action. Through community gatherings
with shared experiences, group exercises, and opportunities for
reflection, we integrate deep social concerns, personal psychological
growth, awareness of our spiritual core, and intimate connectedness
to this living planetary system. We help each other strengthen our
personal support systems and renew our commitment to the earth,
peace, and social justice. See
